January brings a new year which brings new resolutions which brings new goals from good-intentioned people. Goals come in many categories; it is a fitness goal, a personal finance goal, a business goal, etc. I absolutely hate making goals every year and I don’t do them because I know by February, I’ve abandoned them all. What can I say? I’m a low expectation type of person. *shrugs*
Except this year.
Much to my chagrin, here are my 2018 goals to put out in the universe…
Fitness: Get to the gym and lose 10 pounds.
I have a grandfathered 24-Hour Fitness gym membership where I pay a ridiculously low yearly fee. Because it is so cheap, I take it for granted. So, I need to get my ass to the gym because that is half the battle. I arbitrarily chose 10 pounds knowing I need to lose more but again, I’m a low expectation type of girl.
Personal finance: Stick to my budget.
I’ve been using You Need a Budget (YNAB) for a couple of years now. It works like an electronic envelope system. Every dollar gets a job and when you mess up, you roll with the punches and can dip into another envelope, so to speak. You can manually enter your expenses on your smartphone as they happen and sync to your bank. I have been trying to stick to my budget but need to be more accountable for it! It is time to get to work. Sign up here for your free trial. Let’s both get a free month!
Business: Set business hours.
The first thing I learned about owning a side hustle was to set your business hours like any other type of employment. In all honesty, I did not do this. I worked on the side business in my spare time – waiting for the elevator, riding in the car, cooking dinner, etc. It was doable but not the best management of time, in hindsight.
With my many business endeavors this year I want to pursue, I want to set dedicated hours to do each thing. I’m still a full-time employee at work so I will have to account for that too. So much to do in so little time! In the past, my Google calendar was enough, but this year I have bought myself a paper and pen Happy Planner to hone in the productivity into incremental bites. Wish me luck!
What kind of goals did you make this year? Are you terrified of failure as much as me?
